Kevin Knox II joined Orlando on September 23, making him the newest addition confirmed by the team’s published signing releases and current roster as of October 16. He wears No. 24. His camp place should not be mistaken for a guaranteed opening-night role.
Knox arrives with substantial professional experience. The former ninth overall pick has played 320 NBA regular-season games, averaging 7.3 points and 2.8 rebounds over seven seasons.
His most recent G League regular season with Windy City showed why he remains an intriguing forward. In 26 starts, he averaged 22.7 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists, shooting 41.2 percent from three-point range.
There is an Osceola connection, too: the Magic’s G League affiliate acquired Knox’s returning player rights in a September 28 four-team deal. Holding G League rights is different from a guaranteed NBA roster position.
Our view: the question is how his scoring translates into a smaller role. Making open shots, defending within the scheme and rebounding without needing plays called for him would give Orlando clearer reasons to use him. That is an evaluation to follow, rather than a role to assume.
